Potomac Nationals News Release
The Washington Organization announced today four roster moves for the Potomac Nationals. IF Josh Johnson and RHP Brad Peacock have both been promoted to Harrisburg (AA - Eastern League). IF Francisco Soriano has been promoted from Hagerstown (Lo A - South Atlantic League) and RHP Jimmy Barthmaier has been received from Extended Spring Training.
Johnson started out the season with Harrisburg before being sent down to Potomac. After hitting .192 in 34 games with the Senators, Johnson lit up the Carolina League hitting .309 with a .407 OBP and two homers in 26 games.
Peacock leaves the League leading the circuit in K/9 among starters and second overall in strikeouts with 118. In 18 starts, Peacock was 4-9 with a 4.44 ERA. He was the P-Nats first Carolina League Player of the Week for a shutout performance against Wilmington on July 5th. It is Peacocks first venture to AA.
Soriano had spent the entire season with the Hagerstown Suns batting .274 and stealing 20 bases over 91 games. For the first time in his pro career, Soriano has been primarily a shortstop making 68 appearances there compared to 24 at second base. He spent all of 2009 with Vermont (ssA - New York-Penn League). This is his first stop with Potomac.
Barthmaier was a minor league free agent signing from the Pirates organization. He made just one start walking two batters in 2009 with Indianapolis (AAA - International League). In 2008, Barthmaier made three starts for Pittsburgh going 0-2 with a 10.45 ERA. He was released by the Pirates this year on June 23rd. He spent the end of 2005 and all of 2006 in the Carolina League with the Salem Avalance - a former Houston affiliate. Originally drafted by Houston in 2003, he was selected off waivers in November of 2007 by Pittsburgh.
For the time being, Potomac is at 23 players: two short of the Carolina League limit.
