THE HILLCATS: Last night Lynchburg edged Salem 6-5 in the final game of the four-game series to salvage a split after the Red Sox won the first two games of the set...The Hillcats completed the homestand with a a 3-4 mark and tonight they play the series opener of their three-game series at Frederick and the first of six straight on the road...

VS. FREDERICK: The Hillcats are 6-11 against the Keys this season and are 1-6 at Harry Grove Stadium...The last time these two teams met at The Grove, Frederick swept Lynchburg in a four-game series...Last season the Cats went 14-5 versus the Keys and were 7-2 at in the Hill City...Lynchburg holds the all-time advantage 161-143...Last year the Cats record against the Keys was their best against any opponent in the Carolina League at home, on the road and overall...

BEEN THROUGH SO MUCH: Tonight the Hillcats begin their final series of the regular season against the Keys...Lynchburg plays every opponent in the Carolina League 20 times, 10 at home and 10 on the road...Frederick will be the first team the Cats will be through with, followed by Salem after the next set...The Hillcats are also in the midst of their third all Frederick and Salem stretch...For four straight series the Cats play the Keys and Red Sox, with two of the sets at City Stadium and two on the road...Those three stretches make up all 40 games the Green & Gold will play against Frederick and Salem this season...On the last homestand, the Keys and Sox became the first two teams this season in the CL to be finished with their games at Calvin Falwell Field...

MMM...DOUGHNUTS: Saturday night Lynchburg kept Salem off the scoreboard to earn their ninth shutout victory of the season...It was not until the 45th game of the season that the Hillcats blanked an opponent, but they now have posted nine shutouts in their last 55 games...

DENIS THE MENACE: OF Denis Phipps went 2-for-2 an RBI, two walks and a steal...On the homestand the new Hillcats went 13-for-25 (.520) with five doubles, a triple, three home runs, ten RBI and seven runs scored in seven games...In 11 games with Lynchburg since coming down from Double-A Carolina the outfielder is batting .425 (17-for-40) with four home runs and 12 RBI...Thursday night he homered on his 25th birthday to give him a homer in three straight games, becoming the first Hillcat to accomplish the feat this season...

FREE FALLIN': RHP Justin Freeman worked a scoreless ninth inning last night to earn his seventh save of the season...He has now thrown 16 and 1/3 consecutive scoreless frames, passing the longest scoreless streak by a Hillcat this season (RHP Nick Christiani, 5/11-6/8)...Over those 13 games his ERA has dropped from 4.60 to 3.02...The right-hander is first in the league in games pitched (39), tied for second in games finished (26), tied for second in holds (7), first in fewest walks per nine innings (1.13) and third in fewest base runners per nine innings amongst relievers (9.82)...Freeman is also second on the team with seven saves...In April his ERA was 7.88, in May it was 3.07, in June it dropped to 2.40 and so far in July he has not given up a run in nine appearances (10 innings) out of the pen...

HURRAY FOR DAY: OF Kyle Day went 1-for-3 with two RBI last night and has now hit in a season-high 11 straight games, which has tied the longest streak by a Hillcat this season (OF Josh Fellhauer and INF Alex Buchholz)...In those 11 games he is batting .400 (16-for-40)...Over a longer stretch he has hit in 19 of his last 21 games and over that time he is 28-for-70 (.400) with three doubles, a triple, two home runs (including a grand slam), 15 RBI, ten runs scored, seven walks and three steals...In those 21 contests Day has raised his average from .226 to .277...

IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME: RHP Nick Christiani allowed five runs (four earned) and three home runs in two innings of action Friday night...In eight appearances since returning from the Disabled List he is 0-1 with a 9.90 ERA (11 earned runs in 10 innings)...He has allowed 13 hits in his last five and 2/3 innings...Prior to his stint on the D.L. Christiani was posting a 1.04 ERA (three earned runs in 26 innings), and now his ERA sits at 3.50 with the Hillcats...

PLAY ME A SONG CURTIS: RHP Curtis Partch threw six scoreless innings Saturday night to earn his fourth win of the season...In his previous four starts he was 1-3 with a 13.50 ERA (25 earned runs in 16 and 1/3 innings)...In those four outings he has given up 42 hits in 16 and 1/3 innings...His start on Saturday matched his longest of the season, he matched his most strike outs in an outing and it was the first time in a start this season he did not allow a run...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP Nathan Moreau was selected by the Orioles in the 11th round of the 2008 draft out of the University of Georgia...In three years with the Bulldogs he went a combined 18-7 with a 5.08 ERA in 53 games (42 starts)...In 2008 he made his professional debut with Short-Season Low-A Aberdeen and went 1-2 with a 5.70 ERA in 10 games (seven starts)...Last season he threw for full-season Low-A Delmarva and had a 5-3 mark with a 3.61 ERA in 20 starts for the Shorebirds...This season he returned to Delmarva and had a 2-3 record with a 2.98 ERA in 16 games (seven starts) before getting the call-up to Advanced-A...In his debut with Frederick the left-hander tossed a nine-inning no-hitter against Salem on June 30th...Moreau is now 3-0 with a 1.89 ERA in three starts with the Keys and tonight will be his first start against Lynchburg...
