Regina Pats News Release
First Period
After an impressive pre-game ceremony honouring the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, the Pats got down to business with the Blades. Just two minutes into the contest with the Pats on the powerplay, Boston Leier fed the puck out front and in a scramble, the puck ended up over the line. Dyson Stevenson was credited with his 24th of the season to open the scoring. The Blue and White kept the pressure up as they would pepper Troy Trombley with 24 shots in the period. Boston Leier added some insurance for the home side when he took a rebound off Trombley's pad, went below the goal line and slung the puck back around the goaltender's pad to tuck home his 30th of the season. The Pats added another marker when Kyle Burroughs strolled into the slot then leaned into a wrist shot that beat Trombley for the Captain's third goal in four games to set a new career high with his 6th of the season. The Blades did get one goal back as just seconds after Burroughs made it 3-0. Chase Clayton kept the puck on a 2-on-1 and beat Daniel Wapple with a great shot to the top corner on the blocker side for a 3-1 score after one.
Second Period
Pucks continued to fly towards the Blades' net in the middle frame and the Pats would benefit from a fortuitous bounce. Jesse Zgraggen let fly from the point and his shot struck Braden Christoffer in the chest, glancing into the Saskatoon goal for a 4-1 Pats lead. With the Pats on the powerplay, the Blades put pressure on the powerplay in the Pats' zone before coming away with the puck. Brett Stovin carried out from behind the goal and threaded the needle to Cameron Hebig on the far side of the net. The rookie tapped in his 10th of the year shorthanded to bring the Blades back within two. The Pats restored the two goal lead when Chandler Stevenson deposited a rebound from Dmitry Sinitsyn's point shot in the net for a powerplay marker to send the Blue and White to the final frame ahead 5-2.
Third Period
The Blades looked to chop into the Pats' lead early in the frame and were successful when Austin Adamson came in off the wing and sniped one in off the post to the top corner to make it a 5-3 game. The two goal spread was short-lived as Dmitry Sinitsyn let go a snap shot that found its way to the twine to restore Regina's 6-3 edge. The Queen City Bunch added one more tally Braden Christoffer skated around a crowd in the slot, then put a perfect pass cross-crease to Jesse Zgraggen who put it in for a 7-3 score. A melee ensued after the goal and once it was sorted out, the Pats reached the 60 shot mark when Dryden Hunt's short side shot was blockered away by Troy Trombley. The Pats would finish the night with an enormous 62 shots on goal.
