Cougars Win 5-3 over Rebels

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The Red Deer Rebels were looking to end a four game losing streak against the Prince George Cougars on Friday night, but the Cougars ran their winning streak to five games with a 5-3 win over the Rebels.

The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by Sam Ruopp.  The Rebels responded with 2 goals, the first by Presten Kopeck on the power play and then one by Haydn Fleury.  The Rebels had a 2-1 lead after the first period.

The Cougars came out flying in the second period, scoring three times.  Joseph Carvalho, Todd Fiddler, and Brad Morrison all scored for Prince George, and the Cougars took a 4-2 to the dressing room after two periods.

The Rebels pressed in the third, Scott Feser closed the gap to 4-3.  The Rebels continued to pepper Cougars netminder Adam Beukeboom, but could not find the equalizer.  The Cougars got an empty net goal from Todd Fiddler, his second goal of the night. 

Patrik Bartosak made 37 saves in the Rebels net.  Adam Beukeboom made 46 saves in the Cougars goal. The Rebels were 1 for 4 on the power play and killed all 3 shorthanded situations. 

The Rebels and the Cougars will play again Saturday, the broadcast on 106.7 The Drive at 7:50PM.
