
Pats Snap Skid, Take Down Wheat Kings 6-3

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats ended their four game drought, defeating the Brandon Wheat Kings 6-3 on Wednesday inside the Brandt Centre.
The Pats got off to a solid start, leading he contest 3-0 after one and 4-0 midway through the second period. Tanner Howe scored twice, including a short-handed goal, Connor Bedard tallied four points (2G-2A) while Stanislav Svozil and Brayden Barnett rounded out the scoring. Drew Sim made 27 saves for his 26th win of the season. Tanner Brown also chipped in with a pair of assists in the victory.
The Pats end the six game season series against Brandon, going 4-2. The Wheat Kings dropped their second straight contest, getting goals from Nolan Ritchie, Zakhar Polshakov andJoby Baumuller. Carson Bjarnason got the start, allowing five goals on 19 shots through 40 minutes of action before he was replaced by Nicholas Jones in the third.
THE GOALS
First Period
REG 1-0 at 5:51 - Stanislav Svozil (11), unassisted // Svozil went on a rush, danced around multiple players, and was able to somehow tuck the puck past Bjarnason. The officials were not sure if it was a good goal, but after a review, Svozil had the Pats up 1-0 early in the first period.
REG 2-0 at 9:00 - Brayden Barnett (2), assisted by Connor Bedard and Tanner Brown // Brown's shot is stopped by Bjarnason but the rebound went to his right and Bedard tipped it through a defender's legs to Barnett who, with the help of Bedard ripped it home to extend the Pats lead to 2-0.
REG 3-0 at 11:39 - Tanner Howe (32), assisted by Borya Valis and Connor Bedard // Bedard carried the puck deep and sent a floater to the front of the net where Valis chipped at it and it eventually got to Howe who then lifted the puck over Bjarnason to extend the Pats lead to 3-0.
Second Period
REG 4-0 at 10:42 - Tanner Howe (33), assisted by Riley Ginnell (SH) // Ginnell puts in the hard work taking the puck deep into the Wheat Kings zone while on the penalty kill, where he eventually got it deep and from behind the net fed it to Howe in the slot who beat Bjarnason to extend the lead to 4-0.
BDN 4-1 at 11:38 - Joby Baumuller (2), assisted by Rylen Roersma and Andre Malyavin // A broken play in the Pats zone ended up in a scoring opportunity for the Wheat Kings in which Baumuller is able to get it past Sim to get the Wheat Kings on the board now down 4-1.
REG 5-1 at 15:58 - Connor Bedard (62), assisted by Braxton Whitehead // Right after the Pats killed a penalty to Bedard, Whitehead found Bedard with a pass at centre ice. He broke in alone on Bjarnason and beat him with a shot to his glove hand to give the Pats a 5-1 lead late in the second period.
Third Period
BDN 5-2 at 4:50 - Zakhar Polshakov (9), assisted by Luke Shipley // Shipley's slapshot is blocked by a Pats forward but the rebound caromed to Polshakov who put it past Sim to get the Wheat Kings to within three at 5-2.
BDN 5-3 at 13:34 - Nolan Ritchie (26), assisted by Calder Anderson and Andre Malyavin // Sim stopped the original shot from Anderson and Ritchie got behind coverage and tucked it past a down-and-out Sim to pull the Wheat Kings to within two at 5-3.
REG 6-3 at 18:27 - Connor Bedard (63), assisted by Tanner Brown (EN) // Bedard got the puck deep in his own end and lifted a high shot that hit the empty net sealing the game at 6-3.

NOTES
Zackary Shantz returned to the line-up after missing the previous 34 games with an upper-body injury (last played on December 4th), it was his first action for the Pats at the Brandt Centre.
After being held off the scoresheet on Saturday, Connor Bedard had two goals and two assists to give him 129 points on the season. His 63 goals and 66 assists also lead the league. He has 65 points (36G-29A) in 24 games since returning from the World Juniors.
Stanislav Svozil scored to improve his career-best to 11 goals. He has 37 points (6G-31A) in 23 games since returning from the World Juniors.
Brayden Barnett scored his second of the season, both of which happened in his last six games played.
Tanner Howe scored twice to give him 33 goals on the season. He has 10 points (5G-5A) in his last eight games.
Luke Bateman left the game early and did not return.
The Pats ended a four-game losing streak with the win.
John Paddock picked up win number 207 as Regina Pats' head coach moving him into sole possession of second overall in franchise history. Bob Turner leads the way with 274 victories.
UP NEXT
The Pats' next home game is on Friday, March 17th when they host the Moose Jaw Warriors at 7:00 pm to open a three-in-three weekend. They then travel down the highway to Moose Jaw to visit the Warriors on Saturday, March 18th with a 7:00 pm face-off. They finish off the three-game weekend when they travel to Saskatoon to play the Blades at 4:00 pm on Sunday, March 19th.
