Preview: Pats Host Warriors on St. Patrick's Day

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats host the Moose Jaw Warriors on St. Patrick's Day inside the Brandt Centre as puck drop is sent for 7:00 p.m., with St. Patrick's Day T-Shirts being sold inside the Pats team store!

The Pats play the second game of four contests in five nights today, as well as the first game of a three-in-three weekend. The Pats will also close out the season series this weekend against the Warriors with the Trans-Canada Highway Clash finishing off at the Moose Jaw Events Centre tomorrow.

Pats fans could see The Regiment clinch a playoff berth for the first time since the 2017-18 season with the following scenarios on Friday.

The Pats ended their four game drought on Wednesday with a 6-3 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings inside the Brandt Centre. Regina led 3-0 after one and 4-0 midway through the second period. Tanner Howe scored twice, including a short-handed goal, Connor Bedard tallied four points (2G-2A) while Riley Ginnell (1G-1A) and Brayden Barnett rounded out the scoring. Drew Sim made 27 saves for his 26th win of the season. Tanner Brown also chipped in with a pair of assists in the victory, as the Pats won the season set over Brandon, going 4-2.

Meanwhile, the Moose Jaw Warriors are coming off a 7-3 win over the Swift Current Broncos on Sunday, sweeping the home-and-home set for their third straight win. Denton Mateychuk led the way with four points (2G-2A), while Ryder Korczak (1G-1A), Logan Dowhaniuk (1G-1A) and Eric Alarie (2A) chipped in with a pair of points each. Brayden Yager rounded out the scoring and Jackson Unger made 28 saves in the Warriors victory. The final shots were 31-24 for Swift Current. The Broncos finished 0-5 on the power play while the Warriors ended 2-5 on their man advantage.

The Warriors three game winning-streak comes after snapping their three game losing-streak on Mar. 4 with a 5-3 win over the Prince Albert Raiders. Moose Jaw is currently in fourth in the Eastern Conference with 79 points.

The Pats are 14-8-2 over their last 24 games since Jan. 8, which is when Connor Bedard returned from the World Juniors, defeating Calgary twice (6-2 & 6-5), Saskatoon (7-4), Portland (4-3), Swift Current (5-2), Lethbridge twice (3-2 & 4-2), Moose Jaw (8-4), Medicine Hat (6-3), Brandon 3x (4-3, 6-3, 6-3), Winnipeg (5-3) & Red Deer (6-5)...during that time, they have outscored their opp. 105-to-99 (+6 goal diff).

The Regina Pats are on the brink of reaching the WHL playoffs for the first time since the 2017-18 season...in order to clinch tonight, Regina must gather a win or an extra-time loss as well as a Swift Current Broncos loss to the Red Deer Rebels.

Feb. 8, Connor Bedard scored his 60th goal in his 49th game, becoming the first Regina Pats player to reach the 60 goal mark since Ronald Petrovicky (64, 1997-98)...he's the fifth fastest Regina Pats player to 60 goals tying Dale Derkatch who last did so in 1983.
