Pats lose to Kootenay

First Period Pats defender Colby Williams delivered a fantastic open ice hit on the Ice's Jeff Hubic to set the physical tone early in the first period. The Blue and White's physical play fueled their offense. After a wild bounce off of Ice goaltender Mackenzie Skapski, Pats Dyson Stevenson batted the puck out of the air for his thirteenth goal of the year. Stevenson's goal was assisted by Luke Fenske and Burroughs at the 10:45 mark of the first. The teams traded off chances, but the score remained 1-0 for the home team at the end of the first period.
Second Period Great plays defined the second period for the Pats. Offensively, Morgan Klimchuk and Jack Rodewald generated scoring chances with a pair of backdoor opportunities. Defensively, Burroughs made a smart defensive play that stopped Jaedon Descheneau on a partial break. Pats goaltender Matt Hewitt also played great in the second. Hewitt made a huge save on an Ice breakaway at 11:14 of the second period.
The Ice finally got on the scoreboard, though, when Descheneau shot the puck over a sprawled out Hewitt. Descheneau's game tying tally came from Kyle O'Connor and Jagger Dirk with just under five minutes to go in the second period. The Pats had numerous chances to go ahead, but the score remained tied 1-1 at the end of two periods.
Third Period Just over a minute into the final frame, the Ice broke the 1-1 tie between the two teams. Descheneau scored his second goal of the game from Jordyn Boyd and Sam Reinhart. The pace picked up for the Blue and White after Descheneau's goal. In fact, the Blue and White had eight consecutive shots on goal in the span of five minutes.
Pats head coach Pat Conacher called a timeout with 1:41 to go in the game. Hewitt was pulled from the net immediately after the break. The Ice had an offensive break and it appeared that the puck was headed for the Pats net, but Pats captain Colton Jobke hustled back and saved the goal. Jobke was called for a hit to the head with 28-seconds left in the third that put a halt to the Pats comeback. The Ice held onto their one goal lead and defeated the Pats 2-1 at the Dome.
