Regina Pats (18-24-2-2) Kootenay Ice (19-25-1-0)
Head-to-Head
The red hot Kootenay Ice visit Regina twice in just over a week. Tonight's meeting is the third between the Pats and Ice this season. The teams split the first two games in Kootenay with the Ice winning 4-1 and Regina taking a 3-0 victory. Lane Scheidl leads the Pats with two goals against the Ice while top 2014 NHL Draft prospect Sam Reinhart's three points against Regina are tops for Kootenay. After a quick start to the second half of the season, the Pats find themselves on a three game losing streak headed into this evening's matchup. The Ice have won nine of their last ten to get back in the playoff picture. Tonight's game can be heard on 620 CKRM starting with the Pre-Game Show at 6:35.
Lead Up: Pats Fall Short in Brandon
After a pair of losses the Pats looked to get back in the win column against an injury depleted Wheat Kings team. Brandon came out as a team with something to prove and took advantage of a powerplay and shorthanded opportunity in the second period to own a 2-0 lead. Carson Samoridny replied with his first goal as a Pat to cut the lead in half, but the Blue and White wouldn't be able to even up the game in the third period, falling 2-1.
Clark Gillies Bobblehead Night presented by Knight Archer Insurance
Lucky fans in attendance tonight will receive a limited edition Clark Gillies Bobblehead with a minimum donation to the former Pats captain Kyle Deck Charity and the Regina Kidney Foundation.
Top Prospects Game Recap
Team Orr had Team Cherry's number in a 3-0 shutout victory at the Home Hardware Top Prospects game in Halifax. Pats forward Morgan Klimchuk lined up with QMJHLer's Frederik Gauthier and Valentin Zykov for Team Cherry and found his linemates for a couple of scoring chances while coming close himself, hitting the post in the third period.
CSS Rankings
Three Pats players were listed in the recent CSS Rankings released this week. Morgan Klimchuk led the group, ranked 24th among North American skaters. Regina native Colby Williams jumped onto the list at 203rd while Kyle Burroughs followed shortly behind him at 206th.
Who to Watch on Kootenay
With the 2013 Top Prospects Game in the books, you can bet Sam Reinhart will be featured in the 2014 contest. Kootenay's leading scorer has been red hot of late, registering 14 points in the month of January (8 game point streak).
