Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB. -- The end of the National Hockey League Lockout has forced the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings to juggle their lineup for next month's CKLQ Sportsman's Dinner.
The Wheat Kings have announced that due to the 2013 NHL regular season, which gets underway on thirteen fronts on Saturday, Dennis Beyak will not be available to serve as the Master of Ceremonies at next month's event.
A Winnipegosis, Manitoba native, Beyak was scheduled to join comedian Tim Nutt and Hockey Hall of Famer Marcel Dionne at the Dinner, which is held annually to raise money for the Wheat Kings' Scholarship Foundation. However, TSN TV's play by play voice of the Winnipeg Jets will be busy on Thursday, February 7th calling the game against the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs at the MTS Centre.
Pinch hitting for Beyak, who last appeared at the Wheat Kings Dinner twelve years ago, will be Winnipeg's Big Daddy Tazz.
Having performed a wide variety of shows stretching from a client's 101st birthday to a biker initiation makes Tazz one of the most sought-after comedians working in the province today.
A Winnipegger, who grew up in Saskatchewan, Tazz is able to do what he loves both on and off stage, which is to make people laugh!
A regular at Montreal's Just for Laughs Comedy Festival, Tazz dedicates many hours working for the Children's Wish Foundation and many worthwhile causes including the hockey club's Education Fund.
The second player chosen in the 1971 NHL Amateur Draft - behind only Guy Lafleur of the Montreal Canadiens - Dionne played four years in Detroit before moving on to the Los Angeles Kings where he became one of the best players in the league. The Drummondville, Quebec native retired in 1989 with 731 goals and 1,771 points. He was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992.
Nutt meanwhile will be making his first ever appearance at the Wheat Kings' Sportsman's Dinner.
While ticket sales have surpassed 500, there are still tickets remaining for this year's event. For more information or to order call the Wheat Kings' office at 726-3535.
