LANCASTER, PA- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 7-3 at Clipper Magazine Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Somerset sent nine men to the plate and rallied for five runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a 7-3 lead. The Patriots loaded the bases when designated hitter Josh Pressley ripped a one out double to left center, third baseman Jeff Nettles was hit by a pitch and after a wild pitch, first baseman Teuris Olivares was intentionally walked. Catcher Travis Anderson was then hit by a pitch to force in pinch runner Elliott Ayala to tie the game and leftfielder Joe Burke followed with a two run single to left that plated Nettles and Olivares. After a fielder's choice to second by centerfielder Sean Smith, rightfielder Mike Rodriguez hit a two out RBI infield single that scored Anderson and then Smith dashed home on a Barnstormer's throwing error.
The Patriots struck first with a run in the top of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead when second baseman Matt Hagen lined a two out single to center and came around to score on an RBI double off the right field wall by Pressley.
The Barnstormers immediately tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the first inning when centerfielder Michael Woods hit a one out single to center, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly to left by leftfielder Matt Watson.

The Barnstormers loaded the bases on a one out single to right by second baseman Lloyd Turner, a walk by Woods and a broken bat single to left by designated hitter Nate Gold. Watson then hit a two run double to deep center field that plated Turner and Woods.
Somerset got a run back in the top of the seventh inning to cut the Barnstormers' lead to 3-2 when Rodriguez ripped a two out single to right, stole second and scampered home on a two base Barnstormers' throwing error.
