Tim Raines and The Newark Bears defeated Gary Carter's Long Island Ducks 8-2 at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium on Thursday afternoon in downtown Newark, NJ.

The Bears' bats came alive in the third inning after third baseman Rob Mackowiak launched a three run homer. Newark continued to collect runs in fourth, fifth and sixth innings including a second Mackowiak home run in the fifth that plated Charlton Jimerson who doubled to start the inning. Jimerson and second baseman Felix Martinez both went 3-4.

The Ducks put two runs on the board in the eighth and ninth innings including a George Lombard home run in the ninth.

Starting pitcher and former Long Island Duck Mike Hrynio notched his second win this season after pitching for an impressive eight innings, striking out seven Ducks and allowing only one run. Auburn, Alabama native Michael Nix tossed for one inning to finish the game, allowing one run. Jouse Matos recorded the loss for Long Island after four innings on the mound giving up six earned runs.

The Bears head to York, PA with a solid five game win streak and 16-11 record to take on the Revolution for a three game weekend series.
