Patriots Pitcher Tip Fairchild Signed by Houston Astros

Bridgewater, NJ - The Four-Time Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots have announced that right-handed pitcher Tip Fairchild has been signed by the Houston Astros and will report to Single-A.

Fairchild has a 4-2 record, a 4.27 ERA, and 48 strikeouts in 52.2 innings pitched in 23 games for the Patriots this season. Fairchild recently joined the starting rotation for Somerset, where he was 2-0 with a 2.35 ERA in 23 innings in four games.

Fairchild has spent his entire career in the Astros organization before joining the Patriots. He finished the 2008 season at the Double-A level and had 45 strikeouts in 61.1 innings pitched.

Fairchild will leave to join the Astros organization on Saturday, but is no longer on Somerset's active roster.

Fairchild is the third Patriots player to sign with an organization this season, joining outfielder Noah Hall (New York Yankees) and pitcher Paul Bush (New York Yankees).
