
Patriots Rally to Beat Bears

Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots defeated the Newark Bears 3-2 at TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday evening.
The Patriots broke a 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning after center fielder Sean Smith singled and scored on an RBI single by second baseman Matt Hagen for the 3-2 advantage.
Newark took an early lead in the top of the first inning after a solo homerun by center fielder Tike Redman (4). Right fielder Charlton Jimerson followed with a single, stole second, and scored on a fielder's choice by designated hitter Carl Everett to make the score 2-0.
The Patriots answered in the bottom of the second inning after third baseman Jeff Nettles singled and scored on a sacrifice fly to center by catcher Travis Anderson to cut the lead to 2-1.
Somerset scored in the bottom of the seventh inning after first baseman Teuris Olivares doubled and scored on an RBI double by right fielder Elliott Ayala to tie the game 2-2.
Patriots reliever Brian Henderson (2-1) got the win after tossing two perfect innings. Bears reliever Keith Foulke (3-4) picked up the loss after allowing an earned run on two hits in an inning pitched.
Patriots starter Chris Buglovsky got a no decision after allowing two earned runs on seven hits in seven innings pitched. Bears starter Ramiro Mendoza also got a no decision after surrendering an unearned run on three hits in six innings pitched.
The 2009 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until July 28th at 7:05 pm when the Patriots return to TD Bank Ballpark to take on the Camden Riversharks.
