Somerset Patriots News Release
Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Camden Riversharks 10-2 at TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday evening.
For the second straight game the Riversharks jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Juan Francia led off the game with a single, stole second, then came around to score on an RBI single by Pedro Feliz for the 1-0 lead.
The Patriots answered right back with three runs in the bottom half of the first. A walk by Joe Holden started it off, Fernando Cortez then singled, and Michael Hernandez drove a double to right field to bring home Holden. Josh Pressley followed with a double to center to plate Cortez and Hernandez and give Somerset a 3-1 lead.
Somerset added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning after Cortez blasted a two out triple and Hernandez doubled to make the score 4-1.
The Patriots continued to add to their lead the following inning after Norris Hopper reached on a fielder's choice that scored a run and allowed another run to score on a throwing error. Joe Holden then hit into a fielder's choice to score Dan DeGeorge and give Somerset a 7-1 advantage.
Somerset scored three more in the seventh on three consecutive homeruns by Pressley (8), Jeff Nettles (7), and Justin Huber (4). The last time the Patriots hit back-to-back-to-back home runs was August 13, 2008 when Brandon Larson, Pressley, and Vito Chiaravalloti accomplished the feat against Camden.
Noah Hall (8) hit a solo homerun in the top of the eighth for the Riversharks for the 10-2 final.
Patriots starter Derrick Gordon (4-0) got the win after allowing only a run in seven innings while striking out seven. Yorman Bazardo (0-1) suffered the loss in his season debut, allowing three runs on four hits in two innings pitched.
The 2011 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Thursday night as the Patriots take on the Long Island Ducks. The game features Bark in the Park Night and Facebook Friday. For tickets, call (908) 252-0700 or visit www.somersetpatriots.com .
