Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots (25-12) defeated the Reading Fightin Phils (17-21) by a final score of 10-1 before 7,122 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday night.
The Fightin Phils got in front in the top of the first on an Aldrem Corredor groundout that allowed Chris Sharpe to cross the plate. Luis Medina later got out of a bases loaded jam to end the frame.
After Josh Breaux (7) evened the score in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run to right field, the Patriots pulled ahead two innings later on Anthony Volpe and Elijah Dunham RBI doubles which put Somerset on top 3-1.
The Patriots then broke away with the game in the bottom of the seventh after Chad Bell slammed a solo shot (4) to right field, Oliver Dunn doubled home Michael Beltre, and Dunham (4) belted a two-run blast to straight away center to give Somerset a 7-1 advantage.
Three more runs scored the following inning as Jesus Bastidas and Dunn singled in a run each before Bastidas came home on an RBI groundout by Volpe. Dunn collected two hits and two RBI on the night.
Josh Maciejewski (1-0) threw 3.2 scoreless frames and struck out a season-high seven batters in a winning effort. Medina allowed just one run through 4.1 innings and whiffed four hitters in a no decision.
Noah Skirrow (2-3) gave up three runs in six innings in the loss.
The 2022 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue at home on Sunday, May 22 with a 1:05 pm game against the Fightin Phils at TD Bank Ballpark.
