
Patriots Give Moms A 6-5 Win On Mother's Day

Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots defeated the York Revolution 6-5 before 5,028 fans at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Sunday afternoon.
The Patriots broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the ninth inning. Third baseman Gera Alvarez singled, stole second base, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. First baseman Josh Pressley then hit an RBI single to win the game.
York took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Second baseman Keoni De Renne and center fielder Travis Ezi drew walks and scored on a two-run single by right fielder Matt Esquival.
Somerset answered with two runs to tie the game up 2-2 in the bottom of the first inning. Second baseman David Housel walked and moved to third on a double by Alvarez. Designated hitter Brandon Larson followed with an RBI single and Alvarez scored on a double play.
The Revolution took the lead with a run in the top of the second. Shortstop Kenny Perez doubled and would later score on a passed ball.
The Patriots took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Shortstop Teuris Olivares walked and left fielder Matt Hagen followed with a single. Center fielder Elliott Ayala drove both runners home with a triple. Ayala scored on an RBI triple by Housel for a 5-3 advantage.
York tied the game up in the top of the sixth inning Esquival walked, designated hitter Matt Dryer singled, and catcher Luis Taveras doubled home both runners to make the score 5-5.
Patriots reliever Jason Richardson (2-0) picked up the win with 2.1 scoreless innings pitched and three strikeouts. York reliever Jason Olson (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing an earned run on three hits in 0.2 innings pitched. Patriots starter Brandon Knight had nine strikeouts in 6.2 innings pitched.
The 2008 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Friday, May 16th when the Patriots return home for a 7:05 pm game against the Newark Bears. The game includes a Post Game Fireworks Show presented by Staffing Alternatives and Scotch Plains/ Fanwood Youth Baseball Night.
