Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., May 11, 2008) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Sunday 4-3 in 12 innings at Citibank Park, giving the Flock a split in the four-game series against their new division rivals.
Dominick Ambrosini delivered the game-winning hit, a double to left-centerfield in the 12th inning that scored Ray Navarrete. The Ducks had taken an early lead in the game, scoring unearned runs in the second and third innings, and plating a run in the fifth on back-to-back doubles by Mike Rose and Navarrete. But the Blue Crabs tied the game in the eighth with a two-run single by Pat Osborn, and the game remained at a stalemate until Ambrosini's drive in the extra frames. Kevin Haverbusch had three hits and an RBI in the contest, and Navarrete went 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Clint Johnston belted a solo home run in the second inning, one of two hits for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs first baseman.
Manny Ulloa turned in his second dominant performance for the Ducks, giving up just three hits in seven and one-third innings. Ryan Bicondoa was strong as well for Southern Maryland, going eight innings and allowing three runs - one earned - on nine hits with four strikeouts. Joe Valentine (1-1) earned the win for Long Island with an inning and one-third of scoreless relief, while Chris Gale (1-2) was dealt the loss, failing to retire any of the three batters he faced in the 12th.
