
Patriots Edge Riversharks 3-2 in Series Opener

Camden, NJ - The Somerset Patriots (19-20, 54-55) defeated the Camden Riversharks (14-22, 48-57) 3-2 Monday night from Campbell's Field in the first game of this four game midweek series.
In the top of the first inning first baseman Jesse Hoorelbeke hit a RBI double to left field to give the Patriots an early 1-0 lead.
The Patriots added another run in the fourth frame as second baseman Freddie Bynum slapped a RBI single to center field making the score 2-0.
Camden tied the contest at 2-2 in the home half of the fifth inning. One run scored on pitcher Roy Merritt's throwing error and another run scored on a RBI single by left fielder Lloyd Turner.
The Patriots retook the lead in the top of the seventh inning as third baseman Corey Smith slugged a RBI double to deep left field to make the score 3-2.
Merritt earned his eighth win of the season as he hurled 7.2 fantastic innings striking out seven, walking just one while surrendering just one earned run. Keith Weiser suffered his eighth loss of the year. Closer Andrew Dobies collected a four out save as he is now nine for nine in save opportunities.
The 2012 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Friday, August 24th when they return home to take on the York Revolution.
