Toledo Walleye News Release
Toledo, OH - Toledo Walleye Goaltender Jake Paterson has been named CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for January 25-31.
Paterson started the week with a bang posting his first professional shutout with 28 saves Friday night against the Brampton Beast in a 4-0 win. The 21-year-old netminder stopped 29 of 31 Quad City shots Sunday as the Walleye won 3-2 in overtime. His perfect 2-0-0 week saw him post a .99 goals against average and a .966 save percentage.
"Jake was outstanding this past weekend as he was sharp and in control in both of his starts," said Head Coach Derek Lalonde. "He was our best player and the difference in our win versus Quad City."
The Mississauga, Ontario native has an overall record of 7-7-2 with a 2.38 goals against average and .922 save percentage. He made two appearances with the Walleye at the end of last season, picking up his first pro victory with 32 stops in the season finale on April 12, 2015 vs. Kalamazoo. Paterson also made his AHL debut earlier in the month of January collecting 38 saves in a 4-3 loss at Charlotte.
The former third round draft choice of the Detroit Red Wings in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft went 14-10-2 with a 2.37 goals against average and a .929 save percentage after being traded from Saginaw to Kitchener in the 2014-15 season. He went 12-11-1 with the Spirit prior to the trade with a 3.48 GAA and .905 SVP. Paterson never posted a save percentage under .901 in his five years in the OHL. His record was 96-75-13 in the Ontario Hockey League with a career 3.29 GAA and .905 SVP.
The Walleye head to Kalamazoo for back to back games this weekend starting Friday night. Saturday's game will be televised live on BCSN. The Walleye return home on Saturday, February 13, to face Brampton. Puck drops at 7:15 p.m. For tickets call 419-725-WALL or visit www.toledowalleye.com.
