Flint Generals News Release
FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals played host to the Dayton Gems Friday night at Perani Arena, skating away with a 3-1 victory in front of the 2,069 Generals faithful in attendance.
The opening period was well controlled by the home team, firing 16 shots at Derek McIntyre compared to the 9 faced by Rob Nolan. Both teams had a few quality chances but the goaltenders kept things scoreless heading into the first intermission
Second period action began with more intensity from the visiting squad. With just shy of seven minutes played, Dayton opened the scoring with a goal from Tim Hartung. Flint tied it up late in the period with a great goal by Bryan Smolinski.
Pascal Rheaume put the Gens ahead with a 1:02 left in the third when he squeezed the puck past McIntyre's pad and the post. Then with.25 seconds left on the clock, Dan Lapointe sealed the deal with an empty netter after a great effort by Matt Moffat to clear the puck out of Flint's defensive zone.
The Gens were flawless on the penalty kill forcing the Gems to go 0 of 4. Rob Nolan turned aside 29 of 30 shots faced through 60:00 minutes of play.
Flint heads to Muskegon tomorrow for a 7:00 PM puck drop.
