Port Huron Icehawks News Release
PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks hope to hold on to second place as they play a pair of games this weekend. The Quad City Mallards will come to town Friday before the Icehawks head to Flint for a Sunday afternoon game. Port Huron is currently second in the IHL standings with 69 points, though the Fort Wayne Komets are looming, just six points back with four games in hand.
The Icehawks saw their four-game winning streak snapped yesterday when they fell to the first-place Muskegon Lumberjacks 6-2 at McMorran Arena. Port Huron is now 3-7-0-0 against the Lumberjacks this season, making Muskegon the only team with a winning record against the Icehawks.
Friday will mark the ninth game between the Port Huron and Quad City, with six of the previous eight being decided in shootouts. The Icehawks have defeated the Mallards in the shootout in both previous February matchups for a 5-0-0-3 record against the expansion team. Quad City is the only IHL team without a win in regulation versus Port Huron.
The Icehawks travel to Flint for Sunday's game, already the twelfth between the teams. Port Huron holds a 7-4-0-0 record against the Generals this season, although Flint has won three of the last four contests.
Last weekend the Icehawks earned three victories in three consecutive road games. Friday night Port Huron beat the Komets 4-1. Saturday night the Icehawks beat Bloomington by the same score before skating to a 3-2 shootout victory in Quad City.
New Faces: Three new players saw their first action as Icehawks last weekend and played for the first time in front of a home crowd last night. Veteran defenseman Bryan Nathe and rookie left wing Matt Maccarone both made their Icehawks debut on Friday, while forward Peter Flache joined the lineup on Saturday. Flache has two goals and one assist in three games played, while Maccarone has recorded one goal and on assists and Nathe has one assist.
Extra Time: Port Huron has seen their games go past regulation nine times this season, with just one of those contests ending in overtime and the rest going to a shootout. The Icehawks are 1-0 in overtime games and 5-3 in shootout action this season, with all three of their shootout losses coming at the hands of Quad City.
Firing Away: The Icehawks lead the league in total shots (1,725) and are ranked second in average shots per game (32.55) behind Fort Wayne. They have outshot their opponents in 31 of their 53 games this season, which is a big part of their success. They are 21-8-0-2 when outshooting their opponent.
Half and Half: With two games remaining in February the Icehawks have a chance to get their win percentage over.500 for the month. The team is 5-5-0-0 for the month and has as many wins as losses in 2010 with a 12-10-0-2 record.
Ticket Packages: The Icehawks are offering two great discount packages for home games during the 2009-10 season. Family Four Packs are available now for all home games, while Deuces Wild Packages are on sale for all weekday games.
Family Four Packs include four tickets, four hot dogs, and four small fountain drinks for just $44. For just $22, the Deuces Wild Package includes two tickets in the Attack Zone and two beers or soft drinks. The Deuces Wild Package must be purchased at the Icehawks office during normal business hours, while the Family Four Pack is available in advance or at the gate.
Single Game Tickets: Single game tickets for all Icehawks home games are on sale now at the McMorran Arena Box Office, any Ticket Master location or by phone. For more information, visit www.porthuronicehawks.com or call 810-966-3800.
