Flint Generals News Release
The final week of IHL action in the short month of February begins Wednesday night for the Generals as they pay a visit to Muskegon. These two Michigan teams met twice last weekend, splitting the pair of games with the visiting team winning each time. Fortunately for the Gens they have one less player to worry about on the ice, as scoring powerhouse Robin Bouchard will be sitting out his second of three games due to suspension by the league. With.05 seconds remaining in Saturday's game, Bouchard delivered a blow to the head of Brandon Gentile that he did not see coming. This is the last visit to L.C. Walker Arena until April 10th.
Friday the boys of Flint return to Perani to welcome Bloomington for the third installment of City Pride Night at Perani, pitting Fenton and Lake Fenton against each other in a battle for the most and loudest fans. It is no secret that the last few meetings between these teams have been eventful and Friday's game should be no exception. The Generals have pulled themselves right into the thick of the bid for the final playoff spot and will do all they can to make the race even tighter.
They hit the road Saturday for a date with the Komets in Fort Wayne, the first contest between these two teams since January 15th. The Generals have been playing some of their best hockey this month, with a 7-4 record their past eleven games, four of those wins coming on the road.
Sunday, Port Huron comes to town. The IceHawks and the Generals had a three-game mini-series two weeks ago and the Generals came out with a 2-1-0-0 record. In the last four games against Port Huron, the Generals are 3-1-0-0, they look to better that record Sunday.
Looking Back: The nineteenth week of IHL action ended just like week eighteen, with the Generals nabbing 2 of 3 games (2-1-0-0_. Friday Dayton paid a visit to Perani and the Generals were able to take their second straight game over the Gems. The Generals have managed to close the gap in the season series and in the standings with Dayton, the teams are tied with 44 points and both teams play tonight so last Friday's two points could prove to be critical.
Saturday Flint headed west to Muskegon where they were facing not only the top team in the league, but a team that had won its last 10 home games. It was a tough game but the Generals topped the 'Jacks 5-4. Things got a bit heated at the end when Mario Larocque plowed into Gens netminder Rob Nolan, Brandon Gentile even received an unexpected knock to the head by Robin Bouchard.
The Generals and the Lumberjacks met again Sunday in what turned out to be quite a thriller. The Generals dug themselves quite a whole in the second period, falling 6-3. The third period began just as the second had ended, with a Muskegon goal. But something changed and the Gens stormed back with 4 unanswered goals. Unfortunately for the home team, a pane of glass had to be replaced and the long delay took all of the momentum they had garnered and with 2:32 remaining, Muskegon scored. Despite their efforts, the Gens were unable to send the game into overtime.
The Invasion Continues: Tuesday, players visited Hawkins Elementary School in Brighton. Two Generals players are from Brighton, including Steve Silver who attended Hawkins and made the journey Tuesday.
Thursday, four players will be visiting Atherton High School to talk about character building, academics and what it takes to succeed.
