Reading Fightin Phils News Release
(Harrisburg, PA) - A strong effort from David Parkinson led the Reading Fightin Phils (25-26, 53-66) to a 2-0 shutout win over the Harrisburg Senators (24-27, 55-64) on Sunday. The win gives Reading the 4-2 series win this week and a 7-5 season-series victory over Harrisburg in 2023.
Parkinson (W, 8-5) got the start and was stellar. The lefty went six innings, allowing no runs on just two hits. He walked one and struck out five Harrisburg hitters.
Reading's offense struck with two runs in the top of the third. With one walk, Carlos De La Cruz worked a walk. Oliver Dunn then tripled to score De La Cruz and put the Fightin Phils up 1-0. Jhailyn Ortiz followed with a single that scored Dunn and made it 2-0 Reading.
After Parkinson exited, the bullpen compiled three shutout innings, without allowing any hits. Andrew Baker, Tristan Garnett, and Orion Kerkering (S, 3) pitched scoreless innings to cap off the win. In total, Reading pitching allowed just two hits. The shutout was the third of the season for Reading, and second against Harrisburg. The previous two came on May 28 vs Harrisburg and Aug. 4 at Hartford.
DJ Herz (L, 1-2) started and was solid for Harrisburg over five innings. He allowed three hits and two runs, walking four and picking up four strikeouts.
