Regina Pats News Release

REGINA - Regina Pats rookie defencemen Parker Berge is the club's Scholastic Player of the year for the 2020-21 season.

Berge was announced as the winner Wednesday, as the club continues its year-end awards season.

The 18-year-old is currently completing his Grade 12 studies through St. Francis Xavier High School in Edmonton. Berge has excelled in the classroom this season, with a current average of 87 per cent. He has been particularly strong in math and science, finishing with an average of 87 per cent in Math 31 AP, and a current average of 92 in Science 30.

On the ice, Berge appeared in 23 games for the Pats inside the WHL's East Division Hub, recording a goal and three assists.

"When you're awarded something like this that's outside of the realm of hockey, for me it's plainly because you're a mature young man. You commit yourself to everything. As much as these guys are hockey players and we're here to develop hockey players, for me the priority is developing them as people," explained Pats head coach Dave Struch.

"When people take it upon themselves to be mature enough and take responsibility for their education it becomes a very important part of their life and Parker gets rewarded for that."

The remaining Pats 2020-21 season awards will be released as follows:

Thursday, May 6: Mike Kartusch Community Service Award

Friday, May 7: Torchey Schell Top Scorer Award (Ryker Evans & Connor Bedard)
