BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Despite a strong performance from John Parke, the Birmingham Barons (24-21, 51-63) fell to the Montgomery Biscuits (31-17, 75-43) by a 6-1 final Friday night at Regions Field.

Parke allowed four runs or fewer for the ninth consecutive start and recorded his fifth quality start in his past six outings. The 24-year-old southpaw scattered seven hits across six innings of work and struck out two.

Parke (L, 3-3) battled pitch-for-pitch against Biscuits left-hander Shane McClanahan (W, 1-0), who tossed five shutout frames and struck out eight in his Double-A debut. The former first-round selection out of South Florida surrendered just two hits - both singles - and earned his first win with Montgomery.

The Biscuits scored the game's first run via a sacrifice fly off the bat of Lucius Fox in the third and extended their lead to 4-0 with a three-run sixth courtesy of a two-run homer from Tristan Gray and an RBI-double from Josh Lowe.

Birmingham's Blake Rutherford cut the deficit back to three with an RBI-double to the right-center field gap, which represented the Barons' lone run and extra-base hit of the night.

Rutherford, whom MLB Pipeline ranks as the No. 10 prospect in the White Sox system, reached base three times in the game and is 5-for-11 in the current series against the Biscuits, who rank atop the Southern League with a collective 3.08 ERA.

Montgomery tacked on two more in the ninth to bring the game to its final score of 6-1.

Barons right-handers Alec Hansen and Luis Martinez recorded appearances out of the bullpen. Hansen walked one batter in one scoreless inning of work, while Martinez allowed a pair of runs but struck out five in two innings

The Barons and Biscuits will continue their five-game series Saturday night as Birmingham sends right-hander Blake Battenfield (4-4, 4.70) to the mound against Montgomery left-hander Kenny Rosenberg (11-2, 3.06).

First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. CT at Regions Field and the game will be broadcast via WJQX-FM 100.5.
