Montgomery Biscuits News Release
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Shane McClanahan (1-0) dominated in his Double-A debut, and the Biscuits (75-43) took down the Birmingham Barons (51-63), 6-1, on Friday night at Regions Field.
McClanahan, a southpaw who had just been called up from A+ Charlotte, was terrific, striking out four-consecutive batters through the first two innings. After Jim Haley led off the top of the third with a ground-rule double off Barons starter John Parke, Lucius Fox eventually plated the left fielder with a sac fly for the first run of the game.
McClanahan continued to dominate, going five scoreless innings and allowing just two singles, a walk, and striking out eight including three looking. The left-hander would receive some additional run support in the sixth when Tristan Gray ripped a two-run homer to right for the first baseman's 11th of the season to make it 3-0. Josh Lowe then doubled after Brett Sullivan singled, and a throwing error by Barons right fielder Luis Basabe made it 4-0 Biscuits.
The Barons would pull back a run in the bottom of the sixth on a Blake Rutherford RBI-double off Paul Campbell, but the righty would settle down after that and retired the Birmingham batters in order in the seventh to preserve the three-run advantage.
The Biscuits would add two more runs in the ninth on a Luis Martinez wild pitch and a Vidal Brujan RBI-single after Lucius Fox extended his hitting streak to a team-high 13 games with a double to make it 6-1. Jhonleider Salinas worked a scoreless eighth in relief of Campbell, and then Ian Gardeck did the same in the ninth, striking out a pair, to end the game.
The Biscuits will try to win their 17th series of the season on Saturday when Kenny Rosenberg (11-2) takes on Blake Battenfield (4-4) at 6:30 PM CT.
The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk Stadium for a five-game home stand against the Biloxi Shuckers beginning on Sunday, August 18 for Big Mo's Sweet 16 Mascot Mania. The rest of the home stand will include a Military Card Set Giveaway presented by Golden Corral on Wednesday, August 21 and Wrestling Night featuring a T-Shirt Giveaway on Thursday, August 22.
