September 26, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Toledo Walleye News Release
(Toledo, Ohio) The Toledo Storm of the ECHL announced today that they have granted forward Nick Parillo's request for free agency. Also, the ECHL announced rule changes for the 2005-06 season, a list of which is included in this release.
"Nick requested that he be released from his contract, which we granted," said Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Nick Vitucci. "He signed on with us in June, but over the past couple of weeks Nick has decided to pursue other avenues. In no way do you ever want to let a player like Nick go, because over the past three years he has been terrific for the Storm and the Toledo community."
Parillo had signed with Toledo on June 23rd to be a part of the 2005-06 Storm. Last season, Nick tallied 16 goals, added 32 assists, and scored 5 shorthanded goals in his 69 games with the Storm. Parillo appeared in 192 career games with Toledo, scoring 58 goals with 100 assists. "I would like to thank the great fans of Toledo and the organization as they both were good to me for three years," Parillo said. "At this time however, I need to do what is best for my family."
Barry Soskin, President of the Toledo Storm, said, "Nick has been a great asset to the Toledo community, and we wish him the best."
Upon the recommendation of the Rules Committee, the ECHL Board of Governors approved the adoption of the following new rules for 2005-06:
1. Passes from behind the defensive blue line to the attacking blue line will be considered legal. The center red line will be ignored for purposes of the "two-line pass".
2. A team that ices the puck cannot make a line change prior to the ensuing face-off.
3. Dimensions of goaltender equipment will be reduced by approximately 11 percent, including a one-inch reduction in the width of leg pads to 11 inches as well as reducing the size of the blocking glove, upper-body protector, pants and jersey. Goaltenders in the ECHL must be in compliance with the new regulations no later than December 15, 2005, the same date mandated by the American Hockey League.
4. Goaltenders may play the puck behind the goal line only in a trapezoid-shaped area defined by lines that being six feet from either goal post and extend diagonally to points 28 feet apart at the endboards. Goaltenders who play the puck behind the goal line but outside the designated puck- handling area will be penalized for delay of game.
5. Any player who shoots the puck directly over the glass in his defending zone will be penalized for delay of game.
