September 26, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release
PRINCETON, N.J. - Commissioner Brian McKenna announced on Monday that Glen
Thornborough has been promoted to Senior Vice President of Marketing and
Business Development for the ECHL. Thornborough has been with the ECHL
since December 2000 as the Vice President of Marketing and Sales.
"Glen's promotion is well deserved," said McKenna. "It reflects his
increased responsibilities with the ECHL as well as his success in growing
the league's business relationships."
Thornborough has increased sponsorship and licensing revenue for the ECHL
by 200 percent and was the driving force behind the unprecedented marketing
partnership between the ECHL and The Hockey Company (CCM®, JOFA® and KOHO®)
to exclusively provide on-ice and protective equipment to ECHL teams and
on-ice officials. He has also developed an exclusive jersey supplier
program that includes SP Apparel and CCM as well as a partnership with The
MeiGray Group to be "The Official Game-Worn Jersey Source of the ECHL".
He oversees and manages ECHL Properties, including all corporate
sponsorships, licensing and marketing, as well as supervising all aspects
of marketing and sales for the annual ECHL All-Star Game and the annual
ECHL Marketing and Communications Meeting. He also supervises the new Team
Support Program implemented by the league to assist teams in revenue
generation through ticket and sponsorship sales efforts.
A native of Glenboro, Manitoba, Thornborough came to the ECHL Office from
the Jackson Bandits where he served as the Director of Corporate Sales
during the team's inaugural season. Thornborough graduated from the
University of Alaska-Anchorage where he played four years in the Western
Collegiate Hockey Association, serving as a team captain in his final two
seasons. Currently enrolled in the Executive MBA program at Saint Joseph's
University, Thornborough lives in Pennington, New Jersey with his wife,
Bonnie, who is a professor at Raritan Valley Community College.
