
Panthers Sign Strachan to One-Year Contract Extension

SUNRISE, FL (February 15, 2012)- Florida Panthers Executive Vice President & General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has agreed to terms with defenseman Tyson Strachan on a one-year contract extension. In addition, the Rampage announced that the American Hockey League (AHL) club has signed goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris to a one-year contract extension.
Strachan, 27, made his Florida Panthers debut on Jan. 24 vs. Philadelphia, and registered his first Panthers point, an assist, on Feb. 1 vs. Washington. He scored his first National Hockey League goal on Feb. 12 in Florida's 4-1 victory over the New York Islanders. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound defenseman has registered three points (1-2-3) in eight games, while averaging more than 15 minutes of ice time per game since being recalled on Jan. 23.
For his career in the NHL, Strachan has appeared in 75 games with St. Louis (2008-11) and Florida(2012), scoring one goal with eight assists and 82 PIM. The Melfort, Sask., native was drafted by Carolina in the fifth round (137th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
Grumet-Morris, 29, has appeared in 25 games with the Rampage this season posting a 16-8-0 record with a .923 save percentage. He set a franchise record for most consecutive starts by a Rampage goalie with 18 consecutive games (Jan. 3-Feb. 12, 2012) and most consecutive wins with 7 straight victories (Jan. 14-28, 2012).
The Evanston, Ill. native played in one game with the Rampage during the 2005-06 season making 25 saves. He has appeared in 74 career AHL games posting a combined record of 37-25-6 record, 2.76 GAA, .909 save percentage and seven shutouts split between San Antonio (2005-06, 2011-12), Portland (2006-07), Hamilton (2006-07), Manitoba (2006-07), Milwaukee (2007-08) and Connecticut (2010-11).
Grumet-Morris has played in 72 career ECHL games tallying a 46-19-5 record, 2.49 GAA and a .915 save percentage with Cincinnati (2006-08) and Greenville (2010-11). He was a part of the 2006 CHL Champion Laredo Bucks posting an 18-5-2 record, 2.03 GAA and .926 save percentage in 25 games, including an 8-2-0 record in 10 postseason games.
Grumet-Morris attended Harvard University (ECAC) where he backstopped 114 collegiate games (2001-05) for the Crimson with a 63-40-9 record, 2.30 GAA, .921 save percentage and 11 shutouts, including six during his senior season.
The 6-foot-2, 198-pound netminder was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the fifth round (161st overall) during the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
The Rampage continue their Rodeo road trip with a three-in-three series this weekend. They face off against the Texas Stars in a back-to-back matchup on Friday and Saturday at Cedar Park Center and will play the Oklahoma City Barons on Sunday.
