Syracuse Crunch News Release
Syracuse, NY (February 16, 2012) - The Syracuse Crunch snapped their seven game losing streak in convincing fashion by defeating the Albany Devils 7-1 tonight at the Times Union Center.
Kyle Palmieri (2g, 1a) and Patrick Maroon (2g, 1a) contributed three points and 11 other Crunch skaters added at least one point as the Crunch captured a 3-2-0-0 lead in the season series against Albany.
J.F. Jacques put the Crunch on the board first by tipping a Mat Clark slap shot past Albany Devils goaltender Keith Kinkaid 10:25 into the opening frame. Newly acquired Riley Holzapfel recorded his first point by recording an assist on Jacques' goal and would record his second point assisting on the Crunch's seventh goal.
The Crunch's lead lasted just 35 seconds before Darcy Zajac put the Devils on the board. Zajac took a feed from Mike Hoeffel at the top of the crease and was able to push the puck past Crunch netminder Antero Niittymaki to tie the game 1-1.
The Crunch scored three times in the second period before Jeff Frazee replaced Kinkaid in net for the Devils. Kinkaid allowed four goals on 19 shots. Bryan Rodney scored, what would prove to be the game winner, with a slap shot just 3:13 into the second period. Maroon added a power-play goal and defenseman Matt Smaby potted his second goal of the season to give the Crunch a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.
Palmieri potted a power-play goal at the 8:17 mark of the third and added an even-strength tally at the 13:36 mark to bring his season total to 28, once again tying him for the league lead. Maroon added his second goal of the night at the 12:04 mark.
The Crunch travel to Norfolk for back-to-back games against the Admirals on February 17 and 18.
