Bay Area Panthers News Release

The Panthers have more options along the front line with the addition of former Grambling State offensive lineman Kyle Davis.

Davis prides himself in having played all five positions of the line in the outdoor game and is ready to fill whatever role the Panthers need up front.

"What I can bring to the table is a leadership role," said Davis. "It's all about the little pieces. One little piece can change the whole dynamic of an organization. I'm going to keep working to get stronger so we come into the season and dominate."

It's about winning for Davis, who was uncommitted until seeing Grambling State beat North Carolina Central 10-9 to win the HBCU National Title in the Celebration Bowl in 2016. The game was played in front of more than 31,000 fans at the Georgia Dome.

"I came from a winning program in high school and have been winning my whole life," said Davis. "And to see them (Grambling State) win the championship, I said that's something I want to be a part of. It's something I really care about."

With last year's turnaround at Northern Arizona as the IFL template, Davis envisions major success in the first year of the Panthers' reboot.

"I like the approach and the direction plus I think it's the best place to help me get to where I want to be," said Davis.

Head Coach and General Manager Darren Arbet was sold after watching Davis' game film.

"He's strong with great size at 310 pounds," said Arbet. "Kyle played very well at Grambling and I like his energy. He's excited about the opportunity to play and he's going to compete for a job at camp. We're excited to have him."

The increased weight is a positive sign for a player who had dropped to 280 at center in college while battling depression. Davis played through it and now feels he's a better place to take his game to the next level.

"It was helpful seeing these athletes in the NFL talk about mental health," said Davis. I realized that I'm not alone. I said if they can do it then I can do it."

The ordeal inspired Davis to change his major to psychology where he could understand himself better and help others with their struggles. .

"I was going through it and came out the other side," said Davis. "With the grace of God, I became stronger than ever. I gained my weight back-up to about 310 now and I'm ready to play.
