CONEY ISLAND, NY - Jaylen Palmer barrelled up two home runs, David Griffin tossed seven scoreless, and the Brooklyn Cyclones, the High-A affiliate of the New York Mets, shut out the Wilmington Blue Rocks 5-0 Tuesday night at Maimonides Park in the series opener.

KEY PLAYS

Jaylen Palmer cracked two home runs, including a 420-foot two-run home run to center field giving the Cyclones a 4-0 lead in the fifth inning. His solo shot in the bottom of the first inning broke open the game, making it 1-0.

David Griffin shut out the Blue Rocks over seven innings, striking out two. He scattered four hits and two walks in his second straight victory.

Jose Peroza and Francisco Alvarez each added RBI singles. Peroza's run-scoring single plated Alvarez in the fourth to make it 2-0, while Alvarez's RBI single in the fifth pushed the cushion to 5-0.

NEWS AND NOTES

Francisco Alvarez tallied another RBI Tuesday. The 19-year-old catcher leads the Mets minor leagues with 62 runs batted in.

David Griffin has tossed consecutive starts with no runs, combining for 13-straight scoreless innings.

Jaylen Palmer recorded his first-career multi-home run game and now has 13 career home runs as a professional through 175 games.

Wednesday's game has been postponed due to impending weather from Tropical Storm Ida.
