Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

The Hudson Valley Renegades lost the first game of a crucial six-game matchup with the Greensboro Grasshoppers, 9-7, Tuesday night in North Carolina.

Nick Gonzalez hit a two-out grand slam in the ninth inning off Derek Craft (1-3) to bring the Hoppers back from a 7-5 deficit. Gonzalez drove in seven and has hit five home runs with 15 RBIs in his last two games.

The game featured nine home runs total, with six of them hit by the Renegades. Eduardo Torrealba homered twice, with Pat DeMarco, Jake Sanford, Everson Pereira, and Anthony Volpe all hitting the long ball. DeMarco and Torrealba each hit solo shots in the ninth to open the two-run lead for the Gades before Gonzalez won the game in the bottom of the frame.

The Renegades were down 4-0 after four, with Gonzalez hitting his first home run of the night in the second. But the Renegades exploded for five in the fifth on home runs by Sanford, Torrealba, Volpe, and Pereira. The Hoppers tied the game in the bottom of the fifth before things settled down to set the stage for fireworks in the ninth.

With the win, Greensboro (65-38) increases their lead in the High-A East playoff race to 1.5 games over the Renegades (63-39).

The teams resume the series Wednesday night at First National Bank Field.

Per the State of New York, the Renegades are now open at 100% capacity. Tickets continue to be a tremendous value starting as low as $6. Visit HVRenegades.com for ticket information and so much more.
