BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Sugar Land Skeeters pitching and offense came alive late in a 5-3 win over Bridgeport at Harbor Yard in Connecticut. The win lifts Sugar Land to 13-17 while Bridgeport falls to 15-14 on the year. Patrick Palmeiro paced the offense with three hits, including two doubles and three RBI in the win.

Both starters were dominant through the first five innings, keeping both sides off the scoreboard through the first half of the game. In his second start with the Skeeters, Josh Geer went 5.0 shutout innings, scattering five hits with no walks while striking out one. Scott Maine, the starter for Bridgeport threw 5.1 shutout innings before finally surrendering a run.

With two outs in the top of the sixth, Travis Scott drew an important two out walk to extend the inning off Maine. On the full-count pitch to Patrick Palmeiro, the Skeeters' third baseman blasted a double into the alley, scoring Scott, who was moving on the pitch, easily from first to break the scoring seal.

Robbie Weinhardt provided a shutdown inning of relief in the bottom of the frame, striking out a pair to hold the one-run lead.

Going to the bottom of the seventh, Sugar Land held a tight, 1-0 advantage with Derrick Loop on the rubber. James Simmons reached on a single, but Loop utilized the left-handed pickoff move to catch Simmons napping at first. Jovan Rosa worked a four-pitch walk off Loop and Luis Rodriguez struck out swinging for the second out in the frame. Loop lost an 11-pitch battle with Nick Van Stratten, as the Bluefish centerfielder singled to move Rosa to third. Ildemaro Vargas roped a second-consecutive double to score a pair and give Bridgeport a 2-1 lead going to the eighth.

Sugar Land appeared to poised to reclaim the lead in the top of the eighth. Dustin Martin ripped a ball into the gap for a double and Chris Wallace singled to move the tying run to third. With Scott at the dish, Bluefish pitcher Luis Perdomo bounced a breaking ball that catcher, Ryan Babineau, was unable to corral, scoring Martin from third and moving Wallace into scoring position. Scott would eventually single in the at-bat, advancing Wallace up to third. Palmeiro logged his third hit of the afternoon on his second-straight RBI double. Willy Taveras picked up an RBI single with two outs to expand the lead to 5-2 with six outs to play.

After entering the game with two outs in the seventh, Adrian Martin earned his first win of the season, retiring all four batters faced. John Lujan provided excitement in the final frame. With one out and a runner on first, Rodriguez picked up an RBI double, cutting the score to 5-3. Despite a walk and a wild pitch, Lujan induced a 4-6-3 double play to end the game and secure the 5-3 win over the Bluefish.
