
Bluefish Fall To Skeeters On Late-Inning Rally

(Bridgeport, Conn. - May 24, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (15-14) were defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters (13-17) 5-3 in the third game of a four-game series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Sunday afternoon. Despite the loss, Bridgeport was able to scratch out 11 hits in the game, marking the 13th time this season the 'Fish have collected ten hits or more in a contest.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Scott Maine picked up a no-decision, pitching five and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and one run, walking three and striking out eight. Sugar Land Starting Pitcher Josh Greer also did not factor in the decision, tossing five scoreless innings, surrendering five hits, and striking out one.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom half of the seventh inning, Bridgeport took a 2-1 lead on a two-out, two run double by Ildemaro Vargas, plating Jovan Rosa who walked and Nick Van Stratten who singled. Sugar Land would regain the lead in the top half of the eighth inning on a two-run double by Patrick Palmeiro. The Skeeters would add an insurance run later on in the inning to take a 5-2 lead. The 'Fish got back to within two runs at 5-3 in the bottom half of the ninth inning on an RBI double by Luis Rodriguez, scoring Jovan Rosa, but would not draw any closer as the late rally fell just short. Luis Perdomo (1-1) suffered the loss for the 'Fish in relief, pitching one inning, allowing five hits and four runs (three earned runs), striking out one. Adrian Martin (1-2) was victorious for Sugar Land out of the bullpen, pitching one and one-third inning of scoreless and hitless baseball, striking out one. John Lujan closed it out for the Skeeters, notching his first save. Van Stratten led the way for Bridgeport with four hits.
The 'Fish conclude the Holiday Weekend wraparound series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Monday, May 25th, when they once again host the Sugar Land Skeeters. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
