Palm Beach Cardinals News Release

JUPITER, Fla. - The Palm Beach Cardinals (28-13, 60-51) got back in the win column after defeating the Fort Myers Miracle, 4-1. After three scoreless innings, Palm Beach's bats came alive in the fourth to score all four runs that inning. Starting pitcher, Daniel Poncedeleon, earned the win, improving his record to 5 - 0 on the year.

The pitchers of Palm Beach rebounded after game one's loss to Fort Myers, by allowing just one run on six hits. Poncedeleon pitched his fifth quality start and allowed two hits and one walk while striking out six. In the top of the second, Poncedeleon walked the leadoff man, Mitch Garver, and then gave up a single to Jason Kanzler. With two runners and no outs, he got out of the inning with two strikeouts and a ground out.

With Poncedeleon leading the defense of Palm Beach, the offense backed him up after Collin Radack was hit by a pitch in the fourth to spark a two out rally. Luke Voit singled to advance Radack to third, and then both Beach Birds scored on Danny Diekroeger's second triple of the season. Diekroeger scored after Carson Kelly reached on an error, and Kelly followed suit on Blake Drake's RBI single to left field.

Fort Myers' lone run came in the top of the seventh, after Kevin Herget replaced Poncedeleon on the mound. Garver found the gap in right center field to lead off the inning with a triple. Two batters later, he scored on Logan Wade's ground out to third baseman, Diekroeger.

After two innings of work, Robby Rowland was called from the bullpen to record the last three outs of the game. After striking out the first two batters he faced, Wade singled up the middle to try and start a rally for the Miracle. Rowland induced a fly out to left fielder, Radack, to end the game.

The Beach Birds will complete their home stand on Sunday, August 9, with the series finale of this three game series against the Fort Myers Miracle. First pitch for tomorrow's contest is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. To purchase tickets, please call (561) 630- 1828 or visit RogerDeanStadium.com.
