PORT ST. LUCIE Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets completed their biggest comeback win of the season by rallying to clip the Jupiter Hammerheads 7-6 on Saturday night at Tradition Field.

The Mets trailed 5-0 in the first inning but came back to take the lead for good in the sixth. Their previous largest deficit erased in a victory was three runs.

Major League rehabber Michael Cuddyer played a crucial role in the comeback. With the Mets trailing 6-5 in the sixth, Cuddyer reached on an error. Later in the inning he would score to tie the game on Dominic Smith's RBI single.

Phil Evans would break the tie by beating out an infield single with two outs that allowed Matt Oberste to score from third to make it 7-6.

Mike Hepple tossed a scoreless sixth and seventh to get the win.

Kelly Secrest notched his first save by getting the final six outs. Secrest got a called strikeout and caught stealing to end the eighth. He struck out two in a perfect ninth to close it out.

Knuckleballer Mickey Jannis allowed five runs in the first inning. An error by Jeff McNeil and a passed ball by Colton Plaia led to four of the runs being unearned. Chris Hoo ripped a two-run double with two outs to make it 5-0.

Jannis gave up another run in the second but he buckled down and didn't allow a run in his final three innings.

The Mets started the comeback bid early by scoring two runs in their half of the first. Oberste drove in Yeixon Ruiz on a ground out. Jhoan Urena legged out an infield hit to plate McNeil to make it 5-2.

Urena left the game with a leg injury and Evans took over. Evans would go on to drive in two runs.

Trailing 6-2 in the third, the Mets scored three runs off of starter Drew Steckenrider. Victor Cruzado, Evans and Colton Plaia hit back-to-back-to-back RBI singles to make it 6-5.

Cuddyer played all nine innings in left field. He went 0 for 4 with a walk. In his two rehab games with St. Lucie he went 0 for 7 with two walks and one run scored.

Only Cuddyer and Champ Stuart were held without a hit.

Chris Mazza took the loss for Jupiter in his Miami Marlins organizational debut. Both runs scored against Mazza in the sixth were unearned.

The Mets (57-53, 22-19) and Hammerheads (52-61, 17-26) conclude their three-game set at Tradition Field with the rubber game on Sunday at 1 p.m. Sunday Brunch opens at 11:30 a.m.
