Dunedin Blue Jays News Release
DUNEDIN, FL - Matt Dean delivered the game-winning hit in the 10th inning, scoring J.D. Davis, as the Dunedin Blue Jays (49-62, 17-24) topped the Brevard County Manatees (47-62, 18-22), 3-2, on Saturday. Dean had two hits on the night.
L.B. Dantzler led off the 10th inning with a double and was lifted for a pinch runner, putting Davis on second. Davis then scored the game-winning run on Dean's base knock.
The streak of strong starting pitching continued on Saturday evening in the left arm of Alonzo Gonzalez. The southpaw from Santa Monica, California allowed just one run over five innings of work on three hits. The lone run surrendered by Gonzalez was unearned. His season ERA fell to 2.86 on the year.
Dunedin took over the lead in the fifth inning behind a RBI base knock by Derrick Loveless and the help of an error in right. Andy Fermin helped set the stage with a two-out single and was pushed to second base by a Boomer Collins walk.
After taking an early one-run lead in the third, before seeing it evaporate in the fifth, Brevard County tallied its second run, tying the game in the seventh. Chris McFarland picked up the RBI on a single.
Ryan Cook allowed one over two frames, but struck out two in relief of Gonzalez. Brad Allen then stepped in to begin the eighth and held the Manatees scoreless over three innings of work. Allen allowed just two hits and struck out two in earning the win. Preston Gainey suffered the loss for Brevard County.
The D-Jays and the Manatees will do it again tomorrow, Sunday, August 9th as Dunedin eyes the series sweep. Jeremy Gabryszwski aims for his eighth win of the season for the Jays, he will be countered by Javier Salas of Brevard County.
