Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
The Palm Beach Cardinals suffered a tough loss to the Jupiter Hammerheads, falling 9-0 in game three of the six game series.
Pitching for the Cardinals started the game off very strong. Cade Winquest showed off his velocity, topping his pitches off at 97.7 mph. The Texan only allowed one run in four innings, on a weak groundball in front of the catcher, where Leonardo Bernal took the out at first and allowed the run to score behind him. Aside from the one blemish, Winquest struck out five batters in a solid effort. Angel Cuenca was the first reliever out of the bullpen. The Venezuelan allowed no runs over two innings, allowing one hit and one walk to go along with one strikeout. The problems arose when Chandler Arnold entered the game. The righty had been having a great month in June, but that was spoiled by his seven runs allowed over one inning pitched. Arnold allowed four runs in the seventh inning, and then loaded the bases in the eighth before being pulled. Luis Gastelum then allowed all three inherited runs, as well as an additional unearned run before getting through his lone inning of work. Wilmer Ortega got the pitching back on track in the ninth, making quick work in a 1-2-3 inning.
The offense failed to get anything substantial going throughout the contest. Joshua Baez added another single to his great series through the first three games. Jonathan Mejia tallied his second hit of the season. On top of that, Adanson Cruz had the other Palm Beach hit, with a leadoff double in the eighth inning. With these hits and one other baserunner from a walk, the Cardinals followed up with only four at bats with runners in scoring position and were held hitless in those at bats.
The Cardinals will have a chance to get back on track, after a rocky start to the second half of the season, against the Hammerheads. They will play again on Saturday July 1st at 6:00 pm. It will be Beers Around the Bases at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium, where fans can get in the stadium early to enjoy beers on the field during batting practice and then drink around downtown Abacoa. It will also be a Kids Club Saturday, with postgame kids run the bases. Get tickets here.
