Bloomington PrairieThunder News Release
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Left wing Garett Cameron and right wing Dmitri Tarabrin have signed to play with the Bloomington PrairieThunder, Head Coach Derek Booth announced. Cameron, a former Rivermen player, is entering his fourth professional season, while veteran player Tarabrin is a former opponent of Booth's and entering his ninth season at the professional level.
Cameron joins the PrairieThunder after having spent the 2005-06 season playing with the Utah Grizzlies, where he saw action in 72 games and recorded 56 points (G-26, A-30). The Grandora, Saskatchewan native spent the 2003-04 season playing with the than-ECHL Peoria Rivermen. He hit the ice in 11 games for the Peoria squad and posted five points.
Cameron, a 5-foot-9, 175-pound left-handed shooter, split time during the 2004-05 season between the Central Hockey League's Topeka Tarantulas and Oklahoma City Blazers. He saw action in 47 games throughout the year and recorded 26 total points. PrairieThunder player/coach Trevor Baker recommended Cameron to head coach Booth.
"Garett is a former teammate of Trevor Baker's," said Booth. "Trevor recommended him to me as someone who would be a great fit in our offensive game plan. I know, and you can tell by looking at his stats, that Garett is just a pure goal scorer, and that's something every team needs."
The veteran player Tarabrin joins the PrairieThunder roster after having spent the past seven seasons playing for the ECHL's Johnstown Chiefs. The Moscow, Russia native signed with the Chiefs during the 1998-99 season and has remained there since. During his career with the Johnstown team he saw action in a total of 427 games and put up a total of 200 points (G-83, A-117).
During the 2002-03 season the 5-foot-8, 180-pound Tarabrin posted career-highs in games played with 71, as well as in points with 42 for the year. Booth can recall facing Tarabrin on the ice during his playing days, and is pleased to have him sign with the PrairieThunder.
"Dmitri is a fierce competitor, that's one thing I certainly remember from playing against him," said Booth. "He's a great player and he put up big numbers for several years in Johnstown. I'm sure he will be a good, experienced, veteran leader for this team."
PrairieThunder Announces Contest Entrant Ticket Redemption Procedure
The Bloomington PrairieThunder would like to notify all fans that participated in the "Name the Mascot Contest" of a change. Due to the fact that the team will play its only exhibition game on the road in Muskegon, the PrairieThunder box office is going to honor the offer to people who entered the contest with a ticket to the October 26th home game against the Quad City Mallards, as opposed to an exhibition game as earlier advertised.
"This is our way of thanking the fans for their involvement with the team," said PrairieThunder General Manager Jerry McBurney. "It works out in the fans' favor because they are receiving a better value than expected, but we want to make sure we take care of our fans and keep our end of the deal with ticket give-aways."
If you participated in the "Name the Mascot Contest," and wish to redeem your ticket for the October 26th game against the Quad City Mallards, please call the PrairieThunder Box Office at 309-434-2678.
