Lancaster Stormers News Release
Chris Wallace and Johan Limonta blasted three-run homers in consecutive innings to lift the Sugar Land Skeeters to a 7-1 victory over the Lancaster Barnstormers Wednesday evening at Constellation Field.
With the game tied, 0-0, heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, Kevin Russo reached first on a wide throw by third baseman Anderson Feliz. Limonta walked to put a second runner aboard. Delwyn Young slapped a ground ball on the right side. Luke Hughes made a diving attempt, but the ball ticked off the end of his glove for an RBI single. Wallace then rode a pitch from Joe Gardner (3-3) over the boards in deep left center for a 4-0 lead.
In the following inning, Amadeo Zazueta grounded a one-out single up the middle off Kyle Simon. Russo picked up a walk, and Limonta hit a rare home run to right field at Constellation for the 7-0 lead.
Lancaster had opportunities to score much of the night off Josh Geer (4-2) but never reached him in his seven innings of work. The Barnstormers had runners on base in Geer's last six innings, including men in scoring position in four different frames. They left the bases loaded in the seventh after having runners to second and third with nobody out.
Geer allowed eight hits, walked two and struck out five.
Lancaster finally scored when Kevin Rivers led off the eighth with his 12th homer of the season, tying Wallace for the league lead.
The Barnstormers and Skeeters play a day-night doubleheader on Thursday. Lancaster will send Nate Reed (1-5) and Pat Misch (0-0) to the hill. Sugar Land had not announced its starter for the opener and will throw right-hander Sean Gallagher (1-8) in the nightcap. There will be no Barnstormers broadcast of the morning game. Fans may tune into ESPN3's webcast at noon EDT. For the night game, fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; rumba1390.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 7:45 EDT.
