Pair of Three-Run Homers Sink SeaWolves in Finale

A pair of three-run homers sunk Brant Hurter and a late rally comes up short as Erie dropped the finale in Bowie, 7-6.
Erie grabbed an early lead the second inning when Gage Workman blasted a two-run home run against Bowie starter Chayce McDermott.
Hurter tossed three scoreless innings to begin his day, but ran into trouble in the fourth. Ramon Rodriguez and Billy Cook began the frame with hits. Gilbert Lara followed with a three-run homer to flip the score and give Bowie a 3-2 lead.
In the fifth, Hurter picked off Donta' WIlliams, but Williams successfully stole second base on the play as both Hurter's pick off throw and Luis Santana's throw to second were not accurate. This extended the inning, and two batters later, Cook blasted a three-run home run to knock Hurter out of the game. Erie trailed 6-2 at that point.
The SeaWolves got a run closer on Luis Santana's first Erie home run in the sixth. Bowie tacked on a run against RJ Petit on Cesar Prieto's seventh-inning double. Trei Cruz had a solo shot of his own in the 8th inning.
Erie threatened in the ninth. Gage Workman had a bases-loaded chance with one out. He wound lining a sharp sacrifice fly to center. Daniel Cabrera followed with an RBI single. Wandisson Charles came in for reliever Nolan Hoffman and struck out Luis Santana to end the game, stranding the tying and go-ahead runs on base.
Hurter (1-1) takes his first loss of the season. McDermott (2-2) struck out nine over five innings and picked up the win.
Erie took four of six from Bowie for a series win. They head home to play Richmond on Tuesday at 6:05 p.m. Keider Montero starts for Erie opposed by Nick Zwack.
