Pair of Stanton Homers Down Mudcats

Carolina Mudcats News Release

Jacksonville, FL --- Mike Stanton hit one of his two homers during a seven-run sixth inning to lead the Jacksonville Suns past the Carolina Mudcats 8-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Baseball Grounds.

The loss, which was Carolina's (6-11) seventh straight, was the second to begin a 10-game road trip through Jacksonville and Mobile, AL.

The Suns (10-6) and Mudcats exchanged solo home runs early in the game, with Stanton connecting in the first against starter Dallas Buck (L, 1-3). Chris Denove evened the game with a home run to left to lead off the second inning against Tom Koehler.

However, Jacksonville sent 12 batters to the plate in the sixth, with Buck allowing a triple, sacrifice fly to Matt Dominguez and then a walk before departing. Sean Watson entered and did not retire any of the first six hitters he faced, with Stanton drilling a line drive homer to left with two aboard as the Suns pulled away.

Buck worked 5 1/3 innings, surrendering three runs on five hits, yet lost his third straight start. Koehler (W, 3-0) permitted four hits over six innings and struck out four.

The series continues Monday morning with an 11:05 AM ET start with Curtis Partch making a spot-start for the Mudcats against Alex Sanabia (1-0, 0.98). Partch, who will be added to Carolina's roster, will join the Mudcats from Lynchburg prior to the game.
