Huntsville Stars News Release

HUNTSVILLE, ALA. - The Huntsville Stars (10-7) and Chattanooga Lookouts (8-9) each took a game in today's doubleheader.

The Stars won the first decision 7-1 with starter Amaury Rivas (3-0) going the full seven innings, dominating the Lookouts. He only gave up one run off a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Of the 24 batters he faced, Rivas struck out five and walked three. Today's stellar outing lowered his ERA to 0.78, second best in the Southern League.

Lookouts' starter Chris Withrow (1-2) didn't fare as well. He got tagged with seven runs on seven hits in only 2.1 innings. He gave up a homerun in the first to Stars' center fielder Lorenzo Cain. Timothy Sexton came in for 1.2 innings of relief giving up three hits and striking out two. Matt Sartor closed out the game going 2 innings, striking out two.

Stars hitters went 10-for-26 and 5-for-10 with runners in scoring position. Cain was hot at the plate going 3-for-4 with two runs and a RBI. First baseman Steffan Wilson was just as dangerous in his 2-for-3 outing with two runs and a RBI of his own. Lookouts right fielder Tommy Giles was the only batter in their lineup that gave Rivas any trouble, getting two hits in his three at-bats.

The Lookouts (8-9) five-run first inning in game two gave them the quick lead and ultimately the win in a 7-5 final. The Stars started Mike Jones (0-1) from the bullpen. He only lasted three innings before getting shelled with five runs. The Stars put up a strong comeback scoring runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings. It wouldn't be enough though as Stars reliever Jim Henderson gave up solo homeruns in both the 5th and 6th innings, giving the Lookouts a 7-4 lead. The Stars tried to start a late rally in the 6th but only managed to score one additional run.

Lookouts starter Alberto Bastardo (2-1) got the win, going five innings, giving up four runs on six hits. Harvey Garcia came in for his second hold on the season. Javy Guerra followed up with one inning of solid relief, picking up his fifth save.

The Lookouts and Stars face off again tomorrow at 7 p.m. for game three of the five game series.
