Lubbock Renegades News Release
LUBBOCK, TX: May 9, 2007 - The inaugural Lubbock Renegades of the arenafootball2 are excited to announce that defensive linemen Chris Hudler and Kenyon Scott have been invited to Buffalo Bills minicamp this weekend.
They become the first ever Renegades to have an opportunity to advance their careers to the next level. The two will sorely be missed this week, as the Lubbock Renegades battle division-leading Tulsa Saturday night in Oklahoma. The Buffalo Bills hold their minicamp May 12-14th in Orchard Park, New York at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Invites will seek a return to a second minicamp, which runs from June 11-13th.
Hudler joined the Renegades last week after going undrafted in the NFL Draft, and appeared in his first game with the Renegades Saturday. He is a familiar name to Red Raiders fans after closing out a college tenure last season with Texas Tech University. As a senior season last season, the 6'2" 300-pound lineman produced 41 tackles (20 solo), six tackles for a loss and three sacks. The numbers helped earn him All-Big 12 First Team (Houston Chronicle), All-Big 12 Second Team (San Antonio Express-News) and All-Big 12 Honorable Mention (Coaches) accolades. Hudler was an Insiders.com Texas Super Team selection after being part of Mesquite High School's state championship team prior to coming to Tech.
Scott, also a product of Texas Tech, has appeared in four games with the Renegades this season. He has produced 7.5 tackles (5 solo) this season and ranks tied for sixth in the af2 with a team high 4.0 sacks. Scott also ranks tied for ninth in the af2 in tackles for loss with a team co-leading 4.5 and has 2 pass breakups and a fumble recovery. He joined the Renegades after competing last fall with the Red Raiders of Texas Tech. Scott was with the Red Raiders from 2003-2006 and combined to play in 47 games. His career numbers with Texas Tech include 108 tackles (63 solo), 8.5 tackles for a loss, 3.5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. The 6'3" 330-pound Scott, who squatted a Texas Tech school record 700 pounds in the 2004 Night of Championships, was an honorable mention All-Big 12 in 2005. Coming out of Newton High School in Newton, Texas, Scott was selected as the 72nd best guard in the country by Couchscout.com.
Making the trek from the af2 to the NFL is not a far fetch. In 2004, Lubbock's Preston Hartfield, then a member of the Rio Grande Valley Dorados, left three games into the af2 season to sign a contract with the Baltimore Ravens. Donovan Morgan, currently with the Tulsa Talons, went from the Talons in 2005 to catching four passes later that season with the Houston Texans. Media members seeking additional information in regards to Hudler and Scott, or the Bills minicamp, can contact Chris Due with the Renegades at 806-549-4228.
The Renegades return to action this Saturday night with a 7 p.m. kickoff in Tulsa, Oklahoma against the Tulsa Talons before returning home for their next home game on Saturday, May 19th against the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz. Individual ticket and corporate sponsorship information is available by contacting the Renegades office at (806) 744-5858.
