Blitz Collect More Than 150 Pieces of Athletic Equipment for Project Playground Initiative

BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield Blitz are proud to announce that they have collected over 150 pieces of new athletic equipment to be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Bakersfield, the Bakersfield Police Activities League, and the Standard and Panama-Buena Vista School Districts.

Fans who brought a new piece of athletic equipment to the Bakersfield Blitz game on Saturday, May 5th were able to purchase a Club Level ticket (regularly $30) for just $5.

Items collected include 14 soccer balls, 16 footballs, 21 jump ropes, 22 basketballs, 35 hula hoops and 5 new pairs of athletic shoes.

"We are thrilled that the Bakersfield Blitz teamed up with us for Project Playground. The result of Saturday's nights donations were spectacular," said Project Playground Coordinator, Shanan Mallard. "This is definitely a step in the right direction on helping kids fight childhood obesity. We would love to team up with The Bakersfield Blitz again for future endeavors."

The Blitz travel to Spokane, WA this weekend to take on the defending ArenaCup champions, the Spokane Shock. The last time these two teams met was in the Second Round of the American Conference Playoffs in 2006, with the Shock winning the back-and-forth battle, 50-47.

The Blitz will return to Bakersfield on Saturday, May 19 to take on the Tri-Cities Fever in a game that has been designated as Youth Football Night by as part of the AFL and af2's Youth Football Month initiative. During the month of May, all Arena Football teams will be showing their commitment to promoting and supporting youth football.

In addition, the game is also College Night and Military Night. Students and military who show a valid I.D. will be able to buy tickets for just $2 on the day of the game.
