Pair of Homers Lift Power

(Charleston, WV, May 5, 2013): The West Virginia Power defeated the Greenville Drive 6-1 Sunday evening at Appalachian Power Park. The Power batters hit two home-runs to pace the offense.

In the second inning, West Virginia scored four runs in the second inning on three extra base hits. D.J. Crumlich hit a double and came around to score on an RBI double by Jonathan Schwind. Raul Fortunato followed with a single, and Max Moroff hit his third home run of the season.

Greenville scored one run in the third to make the score 4-1, but the Power added two more runs in the seventh. Josh Bell hit his fourth home run this season, a two-run home run, driving in Walker Gourley.

The Drive added a pair of runs in the top of the ninth on a bases loaded walk by Mookie Betts, followed by an RBI single by Cody Koback to make the score 6-3. With two outs, Kyle Haynes picked up the save by striking out Drew Turocy to end the game.

John Kuchno (1-1) earned his first win this season by tossing a season-high six innings, allowing one run on four hits. It was the first quality start for Kuchno this season. Frank Montas (1-4) took the loss.

West Virginia and Greenville continue their four-game series Monday evening. Tyler Glasnow will take the mound for the Power and will be opposed by Greenville's Pat Light. First pitch for Monday's game is scheduled for 7:05.
