(LAKEWOOD, N.J.) The Lexington Legends came from behind with a four-run rally in the eighth inning and ran their winning streak to five games with a 7-5 win over Lakewood Sunday.
The Legends trailed 5-3 going into the eighth. Humberto Arteaga reached second on a throwing error by shortstop Roman Quinn. Arteaga moved to third as Fred Ford grounded out and came home when Nic Cuckovich's grounder got by third baseman Mitch Walding for an error. Cuckovich moved to second on a single by Ethan Chapman, and both runners advanced when Terrence Gore was hit by a pitch.
Cuckovich scored the tying run as Raul Mondesi grounded into a force play at second. Bubba Starling was hit by a pitch, loading the bases again. Michael Antonio grounded a single into left field, scoring Chapman and Mondesi to give the Legends their two-run margin.
The Legends took the early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning. Gore singled, stole second and third, and came home on a double by Starling. Antonio's single brought home Starling for the second run.
Lakewood answered with a run in the bottom of the first. With two outs, Brian Pointer, who had reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and third, and came home on a double by Willie Carmona.
The Blue Claws took the lead with three runs in the third inning. With one out, consecutive walks to Pointer, Carmona and Josh Ludy loaded the bases. Walding's single brought home a run, and Carlos Tocci's single produced another. A third run scored when Chace Numata grounded into a force play at second, giving the BlueClaws a 4-3 lead.
Lakewood added a run in the fourth on a bases-loaded walk, and the score remained 5-3 until the Legends rallied in the eighth.
Cory Hall (2-1), who entered the game in the seventh inning, got the win. Mark Peterson retired the last five Lakewood batters to earn his fourth save.
Lakewood reliever Steven Inch (0-1) was the losing pitcher.
The Legends and BlueClaws will meet in game three of their four-game series Monday night. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
