Lake County Captains News Release


(Midland, MI) - The Lake County Captains (24-20) blasted two home runs to beat the Great Lakes Loons (22-22) 7-1 on Wednesday from Dow Diamond.

On the first pitch of the game Will Brennan singled to start the day for the Captains offense. With one out George Valera got hit by a pitch. A batter later Joe Naranjo came to the plate and sent a three-run home run over the wall in right field to give the Captains a 3-0 lead.

The Captains slugged another home run in the third to extend their lead to 7-0. Victor Nova and Valera both reached to open the frame. With two outs Raynel Delgado got hit by a pitch to extend the inning and load the bases. Daniel Schneemann was next to the plate for the Captains. Schneemann hit a line drive to left field that just cleared the wall for the Captains first grand slam of the season.

Deacon Liput started the bottom of the ninth inning for the Loons with a solo home run to center field to break up the Captains shutout and make the score 7-1.

Tim Herrin (3-1) tossed three shutout innings out of the Captains bullpen to earn the win. He struck out four with three hits and two walks allowed.

Bobby Miller (0-1) allowed five runs in 2.2 innings to take the loss. Only three of the runs were earned on three hits, one walk with four strikeouts.

Logan Allen gets the ball in game three for the Captains on Thursday. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. from Dow Diamond.
