West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps saw their bats go quiet for the third straight night in a 4-1 loss at the hands of the Dayton Dragons Wednesday night in front of 3,169 fans at LMCU Ballpark.
The 'Caps advanced runners into scoring position in six out of nine innings tonight but finished 1-for-9 as Eric De La Rosa notched the only RBI for West Michigan. The Whitecaps have amassed only one run over their last three games and are now 1-for-23 with runners in scoring position over the three-game stretch.
Whitecaps starter Adam Wolf retired the first eight Dragons he faced before Quin Cotton launched a two-run home run to forge Dayton out in front in the third, 2-0. West Michigan responded with their only run in the fourth inning as Bryant Packard crossed the plate on a fielder's choice to trim the advantage to 2-1. The Whitecaps advanced men into scoring position in the sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth innings. Still, they could not capitalize as the Dragons added two more insurance tallies to close the book on the 4-1 victory to deal the 'Caps their eighth loss in their last nine games.
Wolf (0-1) tossed six innings, allowing two runs on two hits and six strikeouts in his first loss of 2021. Dragons reliever Pedro Garcia (3-1) threw two shutout innings with a strikeout in his third victory this season. Dayton reliever Braxton Roxby pitched a scoreless ninth to collect his fourth save of the 2021 campaign. The Dragons improve to 26-18 as the Whitecaps fall to 20-23. The Whitecaps match their worst mark on the season at three games below the .500 mark with the loss tonight and have lost 14 of 20 games in June.
